Join an open access webinar for the Working Together with Parents Network that will explore findings from doctoral research on parenting capacity and attachment in the context of parents with a learning disability.

During the session, facilitators Dr Layla Harding and Dr Kate Theodore, will draw on their research and clinical interests in working with adults with learning disabilities.

We will discuss the implications for practice and the need for more inclusive and context-sensitive approaches to understanding attachment and caregiving in families where parents have learning disabilities.

Learning outcomes

As a result of attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the key findings and lived experience of mothers with a learning disability from the doctoral research Attachment and Caregiving in the Context of Parental Learning Disabilities.
  • Explore insights into parenting, caregiving, and family dynamics and how they may reflect parents' own experiences.
  • Apply knowledge in practice by understanding more inclusive and context-sensitive approaches to better support parents and their children.
