The ‘Learn and deliver’ programme is designed for people who support learning and development in their organisations.
Develop your knowledge of learning theory and discuss how to develop your own bespoke sessions.
The ‘Learn and deliver’ programme is designed to support individuals providing learning and development in organisations.
The series of events will give learning and development colleagues the tools, knowledge and confidence to deliver learning sessions based on Research in Practice resources.
Who is it for?
The programme is designed for Research in Practice Partners in learning and development teams who are responsible for supporting learning and delivering sessions in their organisations.
How does it work?
There are two types of events. Upcoming sessions are listed below:
Learning theory
These sessions aim to develop your understanding of different approaches to learning, to build capacity within your organisation.
The programme of two-hour sessions will explore:
- What motivates people to learn?
- How can you design impactful learning?
- How can organisations support learning transfer?
The programme will conclude with a two-hour reflective and action planning session.
Deliver it yourself
Designed to provide guidance to learning and development staff about how to independently develop their own sessions.
These two-hour events will use Research in Practice materials, resources and activities to deliver sessions on:
- Equity and intersectionality.
- Good decision-making.
- Practitioner resilience and wellbeing.
- Trauma-informed approaches.
Growing online facilitation – 10:00-12:00, 21 April 2026
As a result of attending this workshop you will be able to:
- Understand a range of facilitation skills and how they can be used to support learning.
- Identify the similarities and differences between online and in-person learning
- Evaluate the benefits and risks of using technology to facilitate effecting learning opportunities online.
What motivates people to learn? – 10:00-12:00, 10 September 2026
As a result of attending this workshop, you will be able to:
- Explain what learning transfer is and why it is important.
- Understand the importance of what a learner brings to their own learning, and why these factors are needed for effective learning transfer.
- Outline the differences between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in learners.
- Support learners to find their learning relevant and therefore maximise the likelihood of transfer into practice.
How can you design impactful learning? – 10:00-12:00, 6 October 2026
As a result of attending this workshop, you will be able to:
- Link how learning is designed and delivered with how it transfers to practice.
- Understand the importance of realistic practice scenarios and bringing in real-life experiences to learning transfer.
- Make connections between accessibility and inclusivity in learning with transfer to practice.
- Explain how confident delivery of learning material can support using learning in practice.
How can organisations support learning transfer? – 10:00-12:00, 5 November 2026
As a result of attending this workshop, you will be able to:
- Explain what the transfer climate is for learning (and why it is important).
- Outline the importance of supervision, management support, and wider organisational structures in learning transfer.
- Link the transfer of learning with the space to try things out back in the workplace.
- Reflect on your own transfer climate and plan how you can positively affect it.
Making learning stick: Reflective session – 10:00-12:00, 5 November 2026
As a result of attending this workshop, you will be able to:
- Reflect on messages from previous learning theory webinar. We will discuss what you have already put into practice and what you would like to put into practice going forward.
- Come together with other learning and development practitioners to discuss learning transfer strategies and plan for change.
- Create an action plan to develop a learning transfer climate in your organisation, considering individual factors, learning design and organisational factors.
- Discuss experiences and ideas about developing and delivering sessions.
- Hear from peers about their experiences and learn from their successes (and mistakes).
- Discuss Research in Practice resources, activities and tools that can be used to support learning sessions.
